(Wander)lust & Load-in

posted in June 16th 2016

Tour videos is nothing our fan base have been particularly spoiled with. Because of the simple reason; we haven’t actually been able to tour much at all. 2016 however; we got around to do it, in support to our latest album; “Lust and Loathing”, which was a super fun happening of course! What we also managed to accumulate on that tour was massive amount of (drunken) tour footage. Around 70 GB to be more precise. Unfortunately, I myself, would currently not have time to sit down to go through and edit all that footage. So what it looked like; all this data, would be doomed with a similar fate as the studio footage from “Hell Frost” and also “Fragile Immortality”. Meaning; just to sit there on a hard drive, collecting dust, until it gets outdated and we move on to other priorities (I still mean to do something with that old footage eventually…)
However, we in The Unguided are sometimes lucky. Which means, in the end, you get your fair share of our luck as well. You see; every now and then a kind soul appears and help us out in the daily struggle. Nelli Halkosaari is one of those souls! She, as a friend to the band, have been acting a bit behind the scenes for some time now. But to put her blood, sweat and tears into editing and finalize a 30 minute tour video, out of countless hours of raw footage, to be released on this special; “The Unguided Day” (2016-06-16), surely counts as her biggest achievement for the band yet.

Thank you Nelli! And to the rest of you, enjoy!

Lust & Loathing in Europe Tour Video

Silence from bands usually means things are actually going on in the background. Surely you’ve figured that out by now! Even if it does not really come across at this space; we are indeed busy and keeping the unguided machinery running.
First and foremost I want to thank our lovely friends in Dead By April for bringing us to play in Norway. It was a real honor and I salute everyone involved, especially the fans coming out to the shows! Finally we got to have our premiere gigs in our beautiful neighbor country. And what a spectacular journey it was! Oslo, Bergen and Stavanger all proved worthy and beyond, we will definitely be back, and go out our way to make sure it won’t take 5 years until it happen again.
Even if it’s more than a month ago since we came home from the “Lust and Loathing in Europe”-tour, I can still live on how great it was to see you all again and perform the new songs. Once again, big up for the people that came out, our crew (especially Jonathan and Jonas for stepping in for Roland and Henric), the fine men in Eyes Wide Open and everyone involved. It was a lot of hard work but also super fun! Hope we can do it at a more regular basis in the future.
Coming up next in the live division is a much needed north of Sweden show at Luleå Hamnfestival (July 16th). Check out the tour dates section for details. This is the furthest up north in Sweden we’ve ever played, so it will be very exciting to try our wings there finally.
That show is booked exactly one month ahead of the annual; “The Unguided day” (June 16th). Let’s see what we have in store for you this year!
Other news is that The Unguided now have recruited its first manager in Tom Antes. Tom is a close German friend of the band that we’ve known for almost a decade. He’s a very driven individual with a great sense of the business, which have already helped the band a lot in the past. We are greatly looking forward to expand our friendship relation now also on a professional level. Why we need a manager at this point, is simply because the band have grown to a point, were I don’t personally have the time to attend to whatever’s required to keep it at the high level we think it deserves. We’ve wanted to work with Tom for a long time and now a window opened for both parties which we all happily felt was worth exploring.
Regarding the future. We’ve had some meetings and agreed upon what we want to do next. Once that was settled; I immediately turned inwards, and found myself in a very creative position, spending a lot of my time hammering out the framework of this new vision of the band. Can’t tell you much, but there’s an awfully interesting time ahead of us!

The music video of the latest single; "Heartseeker", from the new album "Lust and Loathing" just hit the world yesterday! And it does seem to stir a lot of emotions out there. As it’s addressing familiar issues; that most people unfortunately have learnt to live with and accept. Whatever you can relate to it personally or have a close friend, family or special someone in your life that’s under some of these circumstances, I think the subject at hand leaves no one unaffected. And I also think we can agree to; that one key to an easier life is to receive; care, acceptance and empathy of the people around you. All of which are human capabilities, but still manages to be a rare enough ingredient in this dark and cold age of the world.
Production once again done by the talented 11 Frames Productions (Inception, Betrayer of the Code, Eye of The Thylacine and Operation: E.A.E) and a lot of extra credits to the team of enthusiastic volunteers working very hard, during the two days of filming, to make this happen. Not to mention all the planning that went into it.

For putting in hard work just to make this possible.
Says Richard Sjunnesson:
"New The Unguided music video "Heartseeker"! loving the fact that people are so involved. Thank you!"
"As far as radio edits and WRTN "all over again"-topics goes. You have to understand there's a difference to when it's a mutual band decision and when it's not."
"We all wanted to do something different with this production. We all wanted to go full circle with the clean, artistic and modern approach. So we did. And that decision-making had absolutely nothing to do with the label or any third party person we're surrounding ourselves with. I love the album version of the song, I really do, but for this particular project; a radio edit was more fitting. In most regard to the album version being my own story, whilst the video is a completely different story."
"Also there's definitely an aspect to keep it short, simple and snappy wrapped up in a beautiful production to drag as much people as possible into our unguided world. And as you already know "scary" screaming vocals is not on the main menu of the feeble minds (BOTC reference) of the common folks, who might just come around eventually when they try the album after digging the radio edit. Not by kicking in their teethes with the heaviest part we have on the record (i.e. the middle-eight of album "Heartseeker"). That's not how you make new friends!" wink
"Don't see it as a insult to the more metal background of the band, open your mind and view it as a recruitment operation to get more people to the right side of the force."
"Besides, I still need money for that Thylacine expedition. There's been recent sightings! Donations welcome."
